An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Thirty-Nine Steps, the classic 1935 Alfred Hitchcock English London romantic kidnapping murder mystery espionage spy crime thriller ("Handcuffed to the girl who double-crossed him"; "The 'Monte Cristo' hero.. The Man who put the Man in roMANce"; "Directed by Alfred Hitchcock Director of 'The Man Who Knew Too Much"; "A hundred steps ahead of any picture this year"; from the novel by John Buchan; perhaps Alfred Hitchcock's best movie ever; there are too many wonderful plot twists and clever moments to describe here, but everyone should see this excellent movie!) starring Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll, Lucie Mannheim, Godfrey Tearle, and Peggy Ashcroft NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release U.S. posters of any sort from this movie are extremely rare. We have only previously auctioned this window card (with a great different image not seen on any of the other posters) once before, and that was 7 years ago, when it sold for $1,789. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us after all these years, so it is still the only example of this window card we have ever auctioned! What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card was cut in half on a diagonal, starting in the upper left border and running through Donat's hand, through his suit, and ending near the middle of the right border. The card had some faint stains, smudges, and scuffs scattered in the image and some pinholes, tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed (the two pieces were joined together and there has been paint restoration scattered in the image), and while you can see slight signs of the above defects the card displays well and will look great on the new owner's wall!
