Personal Affair, the 1953 (released in the U.S. in 1954) Anthony Pelissier English romantic love triangle teacher gossip false accusations crime melodrama ("Only last night he had held her in his caressing arms... this man who was her husband... this man they called an adulterer... a fiend... a murderer... this man who held her love and now her life in his hands"; "It was too late to run!"; "Her husband and a lonely young girl...could the town she hated so much be right about the man she loved so desperately?"; "Your husband is an ADULTERER!"; "Your husband is a Fiend!"; "Your husband is a Murderer!"; "His kiss stifled her scream!"; "'What did you do to the girl on the bridge last night... the police are dragging the river!'"; "Written by Lesley Storm"; a clever story of a teacher in a small English town who has a pretty young female student who imagines a romance between them; he wants nothing to do with her and his wife confronts the girl, and she takes off, and the teacher goes after her, which causes the entire town to imagine that he is guilty, and even his wife starts to doubt him, but eventually, the young girl returns and clears him; interestingly, the student is played by 31 year-old Glynis Johns!) starring Gene Tierney, Leo Genn, Pamela Brown, Walter Fitzgerald, and Glynis Johns
