Date Sold 9/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Movie Poster (measures 39 1/4" x 54" [100 x 137 cm]) (Learn More) La Tragedia Di Kri-Kri (released in English-speaking countries as "Bloomer's Tragedy"), the 1913 Raymond Dandy Italian silent black comedy short (one of a series of movies with director/star Dandy as a tragic clown, and the movies often contain surreal scenes and special effects that were advanced for the time, including reflections coming out of mirrors, people decapitating themselves, etc., and in this movie, his character, when he can't have the girl he loves, he fakes his own suicide!) starring Raymond Dandy (in the title role as Kri-Kri), Giuseppe Gambardella, and Lea Giunchi. Note that Dandy (born Raymond Francois Emile Marie Pierre Frau) began his career as a circus clown and acrobat, first in Tunisia, and then in France, where he performed in vaudeville circuits. In 1912 he started as comic actor at the Cines studios, establishing this internationally popular character of Kri Kri (known as "Bloomer" in English-speaking countries), and his movies were FAR ahead of their time, predicting a transition from the highly structured world of the 19th century into a new world for the 20th century. Artist: Romeo Marchetti Important Added Info: Note that this poster has unusual and high quality caricature artwork that is rarely seen on posters of this period (or posters of other periods, for that matter!). Also, this is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! It was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. It is roughly the same size as a modern day Italian one-panel, which is printed in one piece, and given that it was printed in two sections, we don't want to call it that (but this probably explains why they are called "2-foglio" in Italy, because they were originally printed in two sections, before they had printing presses able to print them in one section)! Finally, note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). The poster is fragile. It has pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges, but only slightly affecting the image background. It has separation, tears, and paper loss on parts of some folds. Certainly, the poster can be linenbacked, and after proper restoration, it will look great, but bear in mind its defects before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
