An Original 1943 (from the first release of this movie in Australia) Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13" x 30" [33 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Cat People, the classic 1942 Jacques Tourneur human-feline romantic horror thriller ("She was one of the dreaded 'Cat People' -- doomed to slink and prowl and court by night... fearing always that a lover's kiss might change her into a snarling, clawing Killer!"; "She was marked with the curse of those who slink and court and kill by night!"; "A kiss could change her into a monstrous fang-and-claw killer!"; "To kiss her meant death by her own fangs and claws!"; "Beautiful, warm, glamorous by day, she dared not love - for her kisses might change to snarls, her embraces to the death grips of the awful 'Cat People' who stalk and strike by night! ... The Strangest Story You Ever Tried To Get Out Of Your Dreams!"; "Pretty Girl - Black Beast - They're One!"; "Written by DeWitt Bodeen"; produced by Val Lewton) starring Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Tom Conway, Jane Randolph, Jack Holt, and Mary Halsey. Note that when this movie was first announced by RKO Pictures in 1942, it was called "The Cat People" in the first trade ads, but it was released simply as "Cat People". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned an example of this poster (or ANY other posters from Australia for this movie)! Note that this poster has full-bleed borders on the left and right and has NOT been trimmed. This was done by RKO with their daybills in the 1940s and early 1950s. Advanced Australian collectors tell us that this is how all the daybills of this title were created. Please do not bid on this daybill thinking that it has been trimmed as it certainly was not. Condition: good. The poster was folded multiple times and there are also creases scattered throughout. There are vertical lines in the top center of the poster that are a printing defect that resulted in white lines in the solid colors (see our image). The daybill was folded and mailed without an envelope, and there are two Australian postage stamps on the back of the center of the poster, with some staining above it on the back of the upper center. In spite of the above, the poster displays pretty well as it is, and it is completely unrestored. One certainly could choose to display this incredibly rare poster as it is, or certainly, restoration (and especially "pressing and flattening") would improve its appearance, but that will be the choice of the new owner of this extremely rare poster.
