An Unfolded German Silkscreen Special Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 33 1/4" [60 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Abrusten und Arbeitsplatze Schaffen (literally translates to "Disarm and create jobs"), the 1982 German silkscreen poster promoting a May 1st event about the creation of jobs through demilitarization, and featuring Georg Von Wilcken art of a missile with grass growing from it. Note that the poster was created by a print workshop in a decommissioned 19th century hospital which is now home to 25 social and cultural institutions, and published by the German Trade Union Federation. Also, note that this poster was in response to the NATO Double-Track Decision, which was the decision of NATO to offer the Warsaw Pact (a collective defense treaty signed in Warsaw by the Soviet Union and several Soviet satellite states) a mutual limitation of certain types of ballistic missiles, combined with the threat that in case of disagreement, NATO would deploy more middle-range nuclear weapons in Western Europe. Artist: Georg Von Wilcken Important Added Info: Note that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
