An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Thin Man, the classic 1934 W.S. Van Dyke (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) detective crime mystery romantic comedy melodrama ("Dashiell Hammet's Master Mystery Novel!"; "Based on the mystery novel by Dashiell Hammett"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it was so successful that it spawned a series of sequels with "Thin Man" in their titles, even though the actual "thin man" from the first movie was the man who was killed!) starring William Powell (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as the alcoholic ex-crook detective Nick Charles), Myrna Loy (as Nick's rich socialite wife Nora Charles, who helped solve crimes), Maureen O'Sullivan, Nat Pendleton, Minna Gombell, Asta (their dog, who became very popular!), Edward Brophy, Edward Ellis (as Clyde Wynant, the actual "thin man"!), and Henry Wadsworth NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and that was the same card being auctioned two different times, so we have only auctioned ONE other example of this card (and the last time we auctioned it was 23 years ago). We hope it won't be 23 more years before we auction another! Also note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had pinholes, smudges, and stains around the edges, with smudges and scuffs scattered throughout the image, including in both stars' faces. It had surface paper loss in the bottom of Powell's chin and in the background below it. Overall, the window card was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. It I owned this wonderful card, I would have another restorer perform some additional restoration to it, because afterwards, it will display incredibly! Learn More about condition grades
