eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 1c302 FRANKENSTEIN LC R38 Dwight Frye holding torch by chained Boris Karloff as the monster! Date Sold 5/3/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1938 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. There are pinholes in the corners and one in the upper center image background. There is tiny paper loss in the bottom right blank corner and the other three blank corners are slightly rounded. There are a few smudges in the blank borders. Someone once put two small pieces of clear tape on the back of the top border and one on the back of the bottom border to mend small tears. There was a piece of tape on the back of the top left corner and on the back of the middle right of the card, but the tape is long gone and they were not put there for a restoration purpose, but the tape on the back of the top left corner must have been folded over to the front of the top left corner, because there is a tape stain there. There are a few tiny scuffs in the image. Other than the above, which are almost entirely in the blank borders, the card is in surprisingly nice condition. I would certainly think most collectors could be happy framing this great card exactly as it is (because the border defects will not show if the card is framed), or any restorer could certainly perform border restoration.
