An Original Vintage Linenbacked French Stage Play Poster (measures 32 3/4" x 47 1/4" [83 x 120 cm]) (Learn More) Esclarmonde, the 1890s French stage play opera production (of the work by Jules Massenet, Alfred Blau & Louis Ferdinand de Gramont). Note that this poster features Alfred Choubrac artwork of Esclarmonde, an empress and sorceress of Byzantium Artist: Alfred Choubrac Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had darkened somewhat, more so in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame. At some point after it was backed, it was slightly roughly handled, and it acquired some creases in the lower right blank border (both in the edge of the poster and the linen behind it, but they are not very noticeable from the front, and it is a small area that will not show when the poster is framed.
