Date Sold 6/13/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Broken Lullaby (released in other English-speaking countries as "The Man I Killed"), the 1932 Ernst Lubitsch World War I (WWI) melodrama (written by Samson Raphaelson; about a French musical student who is goes into the military and who ends up killing a German soldier who was a classmate of his, and he travels to Germany to meet the young man's family) starring Lionel Barrymore, Nancy Carroll, Phillips Holmes, Louise Carter, and Zasu Pitts. Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1932 posters and lobby cards from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a window card, two trolley cards, and a few stills from this movie until we received this lobby card! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There are some creases in the right title and credits area, two pinholes in the bottom center of the image, and a few tiny stains and slight darkening around the edges. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
