An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that a sharp-eyed collector has pointed out to us that the copyright date in the bottom left of this poster is "1960" and not "1959". We had never heard of this before, so we looked back at other images of one-sheets from SOME LIKE IT HOT, and we found that some have a 1959 copyright and some have a 1960 copyright. The ones with the 1960 copyright have slightly smaller type in the bottom copyright information than the 1959 ones, and the words "All Rights Reserved" have been inserted to the left of "Country of Origin U.S.A.". IN EVERY OTHER RESPECT, THE TWO POSTERS APPEAR IDENTICAL. It seems mostly likely to us that there were two print runs of the posters during the first release of the movie. LOOKING VERY CLOSELY AT THE TWO POSTERS, IT SEEMS VERY CLEAR THAT THE PRINTING QUALITY OF THE TWO POSTERS IS INCREDIBLY SIMILAR. However, we are certain there are some collector "purists" who would only want the "1959" version and not the "1960" version, so PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU DO NOT MIND OWNING THIS "1960" VERSION! Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson. Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked). This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "Marilyn Monroe". Condition: good. The left lower horizontal fold was exposed to moisture at one time while the poster was folded and as a result there is some slight discoloration, deterioration and paper loss scattered in that area. There are a few pinholes around the edges and there are two enlarged pinholes in the image of Monroe's chest. There are a few creases at upper left. It is otherwise in pretty good condition and if one chose to have it restored it would look great, although I imagine many collectors would be happy with this poster as it is.
