A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 41" [70 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Pioneer Days and Stampede, the circa 1930s poster featuring artwork of a Native American Indian with an elaborate feather headdress. Note that this may be a stock poster which could be used by any event planner. The poster was printed by Donaldson Litho Co. which was founded by William M. Donaldson and Henry Elms in 1863. The company flourished after relocating to Newport, Kentucky in 1898 and it stayed in the Donaldson family until 1981.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! Note that we are being conservative in dating this poster from the 1930s. It could be from the 1920s or even the 1910s. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had brown stains in the lower right that extended into the bottom right of the headdress. It had tears and paper loss scattered across the top and bottom folds and some paper loss in the left vertical fold. It had paper loss in the top right corner extending into the top of the "S" and a circular brown stain like the others in the bottom blank area. Someone mounted this poster onto linen with slight excess in the top and bottom only, and did no restoration. If I owned this cool and rare poster, I would have further restoration performed, either with or without removing it from the old linen.
