An Original Vintage Movie Souvenir Program Book (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) The Iron Horse, the 1924 John Ford silent transcontinental railroad train Native American Indian historical adventure romantic epic ("Blazing the trail of love and civilization"; "A Romantic Picture of the East and West"; "Three Years in the Making"; "By Charles Kenyon and John Russell"; about the first efforts to create a transcontinental railroad, with savage Indians who ambush the train builders, and many subplots; the movie includes elements of the real first transcontinental railroad) starring George O'Brien, Madge Bellamy, Charles Edward Bull (as Abraham Lincoln), Cyril Chadwick, Will Walling, George Waggner (as Buffalo Bill), Chief John Big Tree, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Jack Padjan (as Wild Bill Hickok). Note that major silent movies at this time were given exclusive showings in either just New York City, or in just a few major cities, where they would charge much higher ticket prices (and people could either pay those higher prices or wait a year or more for the movie to make it to regular theaters). This is one of those movies, and all existing first release posters from it say "Direct from one year's run in New York" on them. We don't know if there were any regular posters created for that initial New York run, and it seems likely that whatever was created would have been "one of a kind", because they would only have been used at that one theater. Artist: Luis Felipe Usabal Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful program has full-color covers by top William Fox artist, Luis Felipe Usabal, as well as a 2-page full-color centerfold, also by Usabal, showing a huge crowd standing in front of a man driving in the "Golden Spike" that finished the Transcontinental Railroad, with many Native Americans on horseback in the sky above them. There are also many black & white images and detailed articles about the movie throughout the program. Note that there is a stamp on the inside back cover, indicating this program was used at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood (which may well have been from the Hollywood premiere of the movie)! Also note that we have pictured the front cover and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Condition: good to very good. The staples that once held the program together are missing, so the pages are "loose" (they are not separated from each other, but each four pages is separated from the rest). There is also a name written in pencil at the top of the front cover. The program was lightly folded down the middle at one time. It has clear tape down the spine. Other than the above (none of which affects the program very much), the program is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
