An Original Vintage Autographed Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Opera Still (Learn More) Rise Stevens was an opera singer who appeared in a few movies from the 1940s to the 1960s. Note that her name is written with an umlaut over the "e" in her first name; her father was Norwegian, and her name is properly pronounced "REE-za", but most people have long forgotten that and pronounce is as "rise" as in "sunrise"! Her best remembered movie role was in "Going My Way", where she played a former girlfriend of priest Bing Crosby, and she has a significant role, and she even sings a selection from Carmen at the Met. She was especially celebrated for her starring performances in the opera "Carmen", beginning in 1951. She performed it at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as opera houses around the world, and released a best selling record of that opera! Rise passed away in 2013 at the age of 99. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Rise Stevens! Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock, and that it has "RISE STEVENS AS CARMEN" stamped on the back. Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who has been a major movie memorabilia dealer for many years. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both collectors and people who worked on movies, and in some of those collections he purchased many autographed items, and sometimes he met with celebrities and had them autograph items he owned in person. Both we and our consignor feel it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Condition: good to very good. There is unevenness in the background around Miss Stevens that may have been part of the printing, or maybe a defect. There is uneven darkening around the edges of the still (see our image).
