An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Crime Without Passion, the 1934 Ben Hecht & Charles MacArthur romantic crime murder film noir (a really strange movie about a lawyer who specializes in acquitting guilty criminals; he plots to get rid of his current girlfriend so he can return to his past one, but an old boyfriend of hers gets involved, and when the lawyer appears to kill his girlfriend, it looks like the boyfriend did it; the lawyer tries to frame the boyfriend, and after many complicated developments, the lawyer ends up killing the boyfriend accidentally, but he is charged with the murder because of how it looks, and it turns out his girlfriend wasn't even killed!) starring Claude Rains, Whitney Bourne, Margo (16 years old in her first movie role!), Stanley Ridges, and Leslie Adams. This movie was one of four that Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur directed and wrote between 1934 and 1936. They found far greater success as a screenwriting team, and wrote many great classics! Also note that this was an incredibly depressing and mystical film noir (with a framing device about the "Three Furies"), implying that all people are basically bad. The noted pulp novelist Jim Thompson borrowed many elements from the plot of this movie for his novel, "The Killer Inside Me". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor fold wear. It had pinholes, tape stains, and smudges around the edges, with smudges scattered in the yellow areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Many years ago, a restorer backed the poster onto a thin linen "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
