Date Sold 3/12/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan's Chance, the 1932 John G. Blystone detective crime mystery thriller ("A thousand to one chance ...and Chan takes it..."; based on the novel by Earl Derr Biggers; in this entry, which was Oland's third appearance as Chan, he is attending a police convention in New York City; someone tries to kill him, and there are police detectives from both New York City and Scotland Yard trying to find the would-be killer, but of course, Chan gets there first) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Linda Watkins, H.B. Warner, Alexander Kirkland, Marian Nixon, and Ralph Morgan. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! In the case of this movie, it literally can't be seen, because it is considered "lost", as there are likely no surviving prints of it. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one example of each style one-sheet (28 years ago and 34 years ago), a single lobby card (which sold for $1,815), and a few stills from this movie, and NO other movie paper, until we received THIS lobby card (which has a great close up of Warner Oland, and a different scene than the one we previously auctioned)! Condition: very good to fine. The outer edges of part of the blank borders are a slightly different color than the rest of the blank borders. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
