An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (measures 11 1/2" x 14"; 4 pages). Also included is an ad supplement that has 2 pages (Learn More) The Spider Woman Strikes Back, the 1946 Arthur Lubin horror thriller ("Mistress of menace!") starring Gale Sondergaard (in the title role "As the Spider Woman!"), Kirby Grant, Brenda Joyce, Milburn Stone, and Rondo Hatton (billed as "Rondo Hatton as Mario... The Monster-Man!"). Note that Rondo Hatton was an actor from the 1930s to the 1940s. He was afflicted with acromegaly which is "a chronic disease of adults marked by enlargement of the bones of the extremities, face, and jaw that is caused by overactivity of the pituitary gland". Hollywood saw in Hatton the chance to make money by exploiting the way the disease had distorted his features, and for several years prior to his death, he was a villain in low-budget horror movies. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Condition: fine. This pressbook is in excellent UNCUT condition! It is complete and uncut, which is unusual, since the purpose of pressbooks was for theaters to cut out one or more of the ads and use them in their local newspapers. We need to note that this pressbook has been folded, which is typical with many larger pressbooks, as almost all of them were folded in half so that they could be more easily transported. Hardly any collectors consider this fold a defect, and I can't imagine a collector who would not be very happy owning this pressbook! Learn More about condition grades
