An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 13" x 18" [33 x 46 cm]; 22 pages) (Learn More)

Walt Disney's The Reluctant Dragon, the 1941 Alfred L. Werker, Hamilton Luske, Jack Cutting, Ub Iwerks & Jack Kinney Walt Disney animated animation cartoon documentary ("Amazing, new full-length feature production"; "Walt Disney's new feature-length surprise!"; "The sensational feature show with a thousand surprises!"; "The big feature show with a thousand surprises!"; "The maker of 'Snow White' and 'Pinocchio' conjures up his supremely unusual! Screamingly comic new creatures! Laughable, blundering live folk, lost in a miracle world! The merriest 90 minutes you imagined could be yours!"; "Sequences in multiplane Technicolor"; a behind-the-scenes look at Disney's animation studio in the early 1940s) hosted by Robert Benchley, and starring Frances Gifford, Buddy Pepper, Nana Bryant, Walt Disney, and featuring the voices of Barnett Parker (in the title role as The Dragon), and Clarence Nash (as Donald Duck). Note that Frances Gifford played the part of a studio artist, guiding fans behind the scenes at the famous Walt Disney Studio! This was Disney's first feature movie which combined both cartoon sequences and live action sequences! Note that Chinese actress Bo Ling was filmed for the "art school" segment of this movie, but it was apparently cut out of the final print, and she did not appear in the movie, although publicity stills with her exist.

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this pressbook, and that was 8 years ago, when it sold for $1,200!

The pressbook has six graduated sections (created by printing the pages of each section a different size; see our images). The back cover has the four main posters in full-color, and the rest of the posters are on the inside back cover in blue & white.

Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Note that this is one of a collection of 25 1940s pressbooks that was recently discovered (and they are all being auctioned now, in separate auctions). They include a number of "better" and "quite rare" titles, some of which we have never auctioned before (or only auctioned once or twice). This is a great opportunity to add one or more of these rare pressbooks to your collection!

Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle. The pressbook was created with a series of slightly larger pages to create "tabs" down the right side, and the final two pages are tattered down the right edge, with some slight paper loss, which affects the printing on the front of those tabs and slightly affects the six-sheet image on the back cover, but not the other full-color poster images.
