An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Simba: The Lion War of A Lumbwa Tribe, the 1928 Martin E. Johnson African jungle safari documentary ("4 years to make 2 hours to show"; "Produced by the Martin Johnson African Expedition Corp"; "Direct from the record breaking run at the Earl Carroll Theatre .. New York") starring Martin Johnson and Osa Johnson (they are billed as "Mr. & Mrs. Johnson"). Note that Osa Johnson was married to Martin Johnson, and that they made African documentary movies for 20 years, but Martin Johnson was killed in 1937 during the filming of "Borneo", but his wife finished the movie and released it after his death, and she also released one final movie, "I Married Adventure", in 1940, three years after her husband's death, and on that movie, she was billed as "Osa Johnson (Mrs. Martin Johnson)". Note that this was one of the two dozen or so movies that the Johnsons made between 1912 and 1928, but very little first release movie paper survives on any of them.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that not only is this likely the best card from this set (although we have only previously auctioned two other scene cards, so we are guessing), but it is also likely the best Osa & Martin Johnson scene card, since it shows both of them close up on wild animals, and also has great border art of them with a movie camera and rifle photographing a lion! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: very good. There are some faint smudges scattered in the blank borders and a small crease in the right of the bottom blank border that was repaired with tape from the back, and that tape has yellowed, but it has no effect on the front. There are three partially erased pencil numbers in the top right blank corner.
