An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 40" x 56" [102 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Freedom From Fear, the 1943 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster ("Ours...to fight for") featuring a Norman Rockwell painting of parents tucking their son into bed while the father holds a frightening newspaper, originally printed in the Saturday Evening Post. Note that this was one of the set of four 1943 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front & War Bond posters ("Ours... to fight for, Freedom from Fear"; "Ours... to fight for, Freedom from Want"; "Save Freedom of Speech. Buy war bonds"; "Save Freedom of Worship. Buy war bonds"; "Each according to the dictates of his own conscience") created by legendary artist Norman Rockwell. Note that the art on each of these posters initially appeared in the Saturday Evening Post magazine. The posters in this set each listed one of the four freedoms that Americans were fighting to preserve during World War II! Note that all four of these posters, commonly referred to as "The Four Freedoms", were printed in three sizes: 20" x 28", 28" x 40", and 40" x 56", and each was printed and distributed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1943 (there are other versions of the posters that were printed and distributed in other ways). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Norman Rockwell Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this poster was printed in three different sizes, and that there were four posters in this set. The largest size that measures 40" x 56" is far more rare than the two smaller sizes. We have only once auctioned a set of the four larger size posters, and those sold for $1,550, not backed. Now, we are auctioning all four of these posters, each of which has been linenbacked, in four separate auctions, so this is a very rare opportunity to obtain any of these (or all four)! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The right half of the poster between the top and middle horizontal folds had darkened. It is noticeable on the folds and in the blank border to the right of that. There was slight darkening on the other folds and some small paper loss at some crossfolds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
