A 1956 Re-Release Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Ernest Hemingway's The Killers, the 1946 Robert Siodmak ("Of 'The Spiral Staircase' fame"; nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) crime film noir ("From the story by Ernest Hemingway"; "Produced by Mark Hellinger"; "It's told the untamed Hemingway way!"; "Tense! Taut! Terrific!"; the screenwriter, Anthony Veiller, came up with a "prequel" to the classic short story, and he devised a very interesting and very believable back-story that would explain the actions of the characters in Hemingway's story) starring Burt Lancaster (in his first screen role; billed as "introducing Burt Lancaster"), Ava Gardner, Edmond O'Brien, Albert Dekker, Sam Levene, Virginia Christine, Charles D. Brown, William Conrad, Charles McGraw, Jack Lambert, Vera Lewis, Harry Hayden, Jeff Corey, and Jack Cheatham NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is the rare case where many collectors might consider a reissue poster to have a better image than that of the original. On the 1946 first release one-sheet, Lancaster and Gardner are compressed into the top left corner of the poster, with a lot of space for the title and credits, but on this re-release, their images dominate the poster, and it has a red background, whereas the first release poster had a white background. The last time we auctioned this poster in 2017 it sold for $1,300! Condition: fair to good. The poster has an odd printing defect, which resulted in Gardner's face having more "red" in it than most examples of this poster we have seen (see our image). The poster was folded horizontally 4" from the bottom and the left and right 2" were folded back and stapled over at one time. There is a stain and tiny paper loss in the right of the bottom border. Someone wrote "814" on the back of the center of the poster, and it somewhat bleeds through to the front in Gardner's arm, above and to the right of the "T" of "BURT". There are a few tiny dot stains in Gardner's credit. Learn More about condition grades
