Fontane - Effi Briest oder: Viele, die eine Ahnung haben von ihren Moglichkeiten und Bedurfnissen und dennoch das herrschende System in ihrem Kopf akzeptieren durch ihre Taten und es somit festigen und durchaus bestatigen (released in the U.S. as "Effi Briest"), the 1974 Rainer Werner Fassbinder German melodrama starring Hanna Schygulla (in the title role), Wolfgang Schenck, Ulli Lommel, Lilo Pempeit, Herbert Steinmetz, Hark Bohm, Ursula Stratz, Irm Hermann, Karl Scheydt, Karl-Heinz Bohm, Rudolf Lenz, Andrea Schober, and Barbara Valentin. Note that this is certainly one of the longer titles for any movie ever made, and we can understand why the U.S. distributor released it under the much shorter title of "Effi Briest"!
