Date Sold 7/10/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Project Moonbase, the 1953 Richard Talmadge space science fiction (sci-fi) thriller ("Thrills come rocketing to the screen as science smashes a new frontier!"; "...Up Up Up!... To a new world of adventure"; "They found romance 100,000 miles from earth!"; "Terror strikes in the Unknown Stratosphere!"; "See man-piloted rocket launched from gigantic space ship!"; "Story and Screenplay by Robert Heinlein & Jack Seaman"; set in 1970, it was pretty close to the actual time that men made it to the moon, but this is not so surprising since it was written by the great author Robert Heinlein; note that the movie is an expanded version of the first episode of a TV show that was never produced, called "Ring Around the Moon"; Heinlein was sort of tricked into making this movie, which is far from his best work, and got terrible reviews on its first release; however, the movie is notable for having a female president and a female commander, decades before "Star Trek" did the same in one of its incarnations!) starring Ross Ford, Donna Martell, Hayden Rorke, Larry Johns, and Ernestine Barrier (as Madame President). Note that Hayden Rorke played a general involved in the spaceship program in this movie, and years later, he would again join the space program, this time as a psychiatrist on TV's "I Dream of Jeannie"! Also, note that Richard Talmadge was born "Sylvester Alphonse Metz", and he was an acrobat with the Barnum and Bailey Circus. He got a job in Hollywood as a stuntman for Douglas Fairbanks Sr., and then graduated to starring in movies, always performing lots of stunts. He had two acrobat brothers, Otto Metzetti and Victor Metz, who appeared with him in some of his movies. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: fair to good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle and there is some wear around the edges with staining in the bottom of the pressbook and small paper loss and tears in the lower right corner.
