An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Speedy, the 1928 Ted Wilde (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) silent romantic comedy (about a New Yorker who is unemployed, and his girlfriend's grandfather owns the last horse-drawn trolley in New York City, and some crooks are trying to get his contract, and if he doesn't complete his route once every 24 hours, he will lose his contract, and naturally, Lloyd takes over and has to get the trolley all over New York City in the nick of time, to save his girl's grandfather's business) starring Harold Lloyd (in the title role as Harold 'Speedy' Swift), Ann Christy, Bert Woodruff, Brooks Benedict, and Babe Ruth (as himself!). Note that the movie was shot on location in Manhattan, included scenes at Luna Park in Coney Island, Columbus Circle, Wall Street, and ends with a crash at the Brooklyn Bridge. Also note that there is a brief scene where Lloyd drives a taxi and his passenger is none other than the real Babe Ruth, who plays himself in the movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 12 years ago, when it sold for $725. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example of this window card we have ever auctioned! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had pinholes, creases, scuffs, and some tears around the edges of the card, extending into the background areas, but having very little effect on the image. There was a 3" vertical tear in the bottom center of the card, extending into the bottom of the first "E" of "SPEEDY" and a diagonal 6" tear extending into the "ROL" of "HAROLD" in the bottom credit, and a horizontal tear below that extending through the middle of the word "Release". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was quite expertly backed, and the restorer did not use extensive paint on the above defects, so you can see slight signs of the restoration (primarily in the bottom 3" of the card), but the card displays great and will look wonderful on anyone's wall!
