An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Recruiting Poster (measures 26 1/2" x 41" [67 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) I Want You for the Navy, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) recruitment poster ("Promotion for anyone enlisting, apply any recruiting station or postmaster") encouraging men to join the United States Navy (a sort of parody on the classic "I Want You" Uncle Sam poster with art by James Montgomery Flagg that had come out that same year, using reverse psychology to get the men to enlist in the Navy, by using great art of a pretty woman in a Navy sailor's uniform by Howard Chandler Christy). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Howard Chandler Christy Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had surface paper loss in the vertical foldline and also in the horizontal fold, where there were also some creases and small tears. There was a 2" tear in the yellow background at middle right and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in small parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
