An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 18 1/2") (Learn More) Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, the classic 1948 H.C. Potter home remodeling architecture living-in-the-city-vs-living-in-the-country comedy ("The nuttiest birds live in this house!"; "Cary's burnin', he's afraid his dream house den will have a built-in wolf"; "Myrna's yearnin' for a dream house with all modern conveniences including two men"; "Melvyn's turnin', He's a 'good friend' in wolf's clothing."; "Looks like the Blandings will have no heating problem."; about a family building their own home and the disasters that befall them) starring Cary Grant (in the title role as "Mr. Blandings"), Myrna Loy ("Mrs. Blandings"), Melvyn Douglas ("and good [?] friend"), Reginald Denny, Sharyn Moffett, Connie Marshall, Louise Beavers, Ian Wolfe, and Will Wright. Perhaps RKO was afraid that this movie would not find an audience (just being about a couple building their own house), so they made posters that presented it like it was a romantic love triangle, and even referred to Melvyn Douglas as "a good friend in wolf's clothing", when actually, there was no triangle at all! They needn't have worried, because the movie was very clever and proved to be very successful! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jos De Cock Important Added Info: Note that material from this extremely popular movie is extremely rare! Also, most of the first release U.S. posters and lobby cards are not all that attractive. This Belgian poster has the nicest first release image I have seen for this classic movie! What IS linenbacking? "Linenbacking" is a process that is used to preserve movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), and to make them far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a linenbacked poster). When linenbacking is done correctly, it adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! Note that the specific poster in this auction was well linenbacked, but the restorer likely did not attempt to make the poster look "perfect". You may still see some slight evidence of the restoration and/or the defects when you look at the poster from inches away. But the poster now looks quite nice, and I think most collectors would be extremely happy to display this poster on their wall. In general, know that we received many of the linenbacked posters we are currently selling already linenbacked, but we have examined every poster EXTREMELY carefully, and we did our best to describe what condition the poster was in PRIOR to restoration, the defects the poster had PRIOR to restoration (in the "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" section), any unrestored defects, and, when it seemed worth noting, something about the quality of the restoration itself. Many other auction houses claim to match what we do in this area, but EVERY person who regularly buys movie posters from major auctions can tell you this is just not the case! We never intentionally overgrade a single item, we never "accidentally" miss defects, and we never enhance a single image! Condition: very good to fine. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster was folded across the original middle and there was minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
