And the answer is murder!") starring Chester Morris ("as Boston Blackie"), Jeff Donnell, Richard Lane, Dusty Anderson, George E. Stone, and Marvin Miller. Note that this is one of fourteen movies made in the 1940s with Chester Morris playing the fictional character "Boston Blackie", a former crook turned detective (there had been ten silent movies made in the 1920s), all of which were based on short stories by Jack Boyle.
