An Autographed Letter (measures 6 1/4" x 7 3/4" [16 x 20 cm]) (Learn More) Barbara Stanwyck (born Ruby Catherine Stevens) was a major female star from the 1920s to the 1980s. She was an immediate hit in sexy "bad girl" parts in the very early 1930s, and in 1931, she was described as "the girl with the Mona Lisa smile". Some of her movies include: Stella Dallas (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Double Indemnity (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), The Lady Eve, Meet John Doe, Ball Of Fire (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sorry, Wrong Number (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, and scores of others! In her later years, she took a starring role on TV's "The Big Valley", and "The Colbys" (as spin-off of "Dynasty"). She passed away in 1990 at the age of 82. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Barbara Stanwyck! It has a really cool story to go with it, with documentation. What is the story? In 1935, a Barbara Stanwyck fan club called "Barbara Stanwyck Buddies" held a contest where they asked six questions of their members and asked them to write out their answers and send them to Miss Stanwyck. This auction is for a note written by Barbara Stanwyck on her personal stationery (printed with her married name "Barbara Stanwyck Fay"), and on the note, she wrote to Bonnie Bergstram, who was apparently the head of the fan club, and Miss Stanwyck picked her choices for the three winners, and enclosed the entry from the one she picked as the winner, Frances Mary Rice. She signed the note "As Ever, Barbara". She also hand addressed the envelope. We don't know what the winner of the contest got, but this auction is for the signed note, the contest entry, and the envelope hand addressed by Miss Stanwyck (see our images). Also note that this auction also includes the envelope this letter was originally mailed in! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
