A 1937 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 14 1/4" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Deep South, the 1930 Leslie Goodwins black African American romantic marriage comedy musical short (with an "all colored cast") starring Willie Best, Daisy Bufford, Clarence Muse, Hall Johnson Choir, Jessie Graves, Bertha Powell, and Hattie McDaniel (in her first movie). Note that this is a very mysterious movie for a couple of reasons. It was released by Sack Amusement Enterprises in 1930, and it had a very early appearance by Willie Best, and the first appearance by Hattie McDaniel. It seems likely that in 1937, RKO decided to re-release this short, likely because Best and The Hall Johnson Choir (and also McDaniel and Muse) had all gone on to much better things in the seven years since it was made, and they released it as though it was a brand new short. We have seen an image of a one-sheet that only mentions Sack, and we think that is the first release, and we have seen a single lobby card from RKO and Sack, which we think is from the 1937 re-release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this 1937 re-release lobby card (which is the one mentioned in the description above). Also note that this lobby card has a full bleed and measures 10 3/4" x 14 1/4", NOT 11" x 14". Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Finally, note that this lobby card measures 10 3/4" x 14 1/4" [27 x 36 cm].

Condition: good. The card has some tiny tears and small areas of paper loss in parts of the borders, but is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
