An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Suzy, the 1936 George Fitzmaurice World War I (WWI) London England romantic love triangle military comedy (based on the novel by Herbert Gorman; similar to 1941's "Casablanca"; Harlow is a showgirl in England who is married to Tone, and he is shot during World War I, and she thinks he is dead, and she falls in love with airplane pilot Grant in Paris, only to learn that her husband is still alive) starring Jean Harlow ("Jean's in Paris now!"; in the title role as Suzy), Franchot Tone, Cary Grant, Lewis Stone, Benita Hume, Inez Courtney, and Harry Cording NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1936 movie paper from this early Jean Harlow/Cary Grant movie is extremely scarce. The only poster we have auctioned from this movie before receiving this half-sheet was a jumbo window card. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had its blank borders trimmed off, slightly affecting the top of edge of the red border. It had tears and paper loss scattered in the bottom center, affecting the MGM credit and the bottom of the "z" of "Suzy". It had tears in Lewis Stone and Benita Hume's credits, entering the "T" of "GRANT". There were many stains scattered in the center of the image, including in all three stars' faces. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. Given the poster's many defects, the restorer did a pretty nice job making it display alright, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
