An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Polish Movie Poster (23x33; measures 22 3/4" x 33 1/2" [58 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Ascenseur pour l'echafaud (released in the U.S. in 1961 as "Frantic" and also as "Elevator to the Gallows", its more well-known English title), the 1958 Louis Malle French crime thriller ("More Hitchcock than Hitchcock! More thrills and suspense and daring!"; with "original score composed and played by Miles Davis"; about a man who is having an affair with his boss' wife, and together they devise a plan to have the man kill the boss, but make it look like suicide; their plan seems perfect, but the killer makes an error, and when he tries to go back to correct it, he gets trapped inside the elevator!) starring Jeanne Moreau (billed as "Star of 'The Lovers'"), Maurice Ronet, Georges Poujouly (billed as "The French James Dean"), Yori Bertin, Jean Wall, Juan Petrovich, Felix Marten, and Lino Ventura. Note that this was legendary French director Louis Malle's first feature movie (and he co-wrote the screenplay), and he clearly was strongly influenced by the plot of Billy Wilder's "Double Indemnity", but even more influenced by Alfred Hitchcock's style, and the movie is excellent. But Malle soon went in different directions in his movies, and one wonders what his career might have been like had he continued making movies like this one!
