An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Howard Hawks' The Thing From Another World!, the classic 1951 Christian Nyby science fiction (sci-fi) monster horror thriller ("The Thing from another world!"; "How did it get here?"; "Natural or Supernatural?"; "Howard Hawks' Astounding Movie"; "Look out... it's The Thing from another world!"; produced by Howard Hawks; based on the story by John W. Campbell, best known for being the editor of Astounding Science Fiction!) starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, Robert Cornthwaite, Dewey Martin, Paul Frees, John Dierkes, Eduard Franz, James Arness (in the title role as The Thing From Another World!), William Self, and Billy Curtis (as the miniature "Thing" in the final sequence when the monster appears to shrink). Note that this movie had a very unusual poster campaign, where the letters of the title were made to look like body parts ("blood and guts"!), with wires coming off of the letters. Almost all the posters had this basic design. The pressbook calls all of them "teaser" posters and says "This display material was designed for an advance teaser campaign, as well as for general use". So obviously, they intentionally wanted to have the posters not reveal much about the movie, as a way to get people interested and get them into the theater. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster had its top and bottom borders folded back at one time. There were pinholes around the edges of the poster, and there is some paper loss caused by rough removal of the pins. All of the top 1/4 of the vertical foldline and much of the top horizontal foldline were completely separated at one time, as was the 6" of the vertical foldline below the middle crossfold and the 4" of the middle foldline surrounding the middle crossfold, and much of the right half of the bottom foldline. Someone put clear tape on the back of many of these folds, but they did not do a good job of joining the sections, so there is fine separation between the sections. There is paper loss in the left of the bottom blank border and there several small pieces of tape on the back of the borders, mending tears and covering pinholes. The poster is in better condition than the above makes it sound! Any talented restorer could remove all of the tape from the back, properly linenback the poster (correctly joining the sections), restoring the basically minor defects and inpainting along the folds, and the poster would look great, and it would only have a relatively small amount of restoration, mostly a fine line of touch up along all the folds.
