An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #8 (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) National Velvet, the classic 1944 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) horse racing sports gambling family relationship melodrama ("MGM's great technicolor heart drama"; "Based on the novel 'National Velvet' by Enid Bagnold"; about a young English girl whose father is a butcher and her mother was a former English Channel swimmer, and she dreams of owning a race horse that will win the Grand National Steeplechase, and with the support of her parents and a young man of dubious character, she fulfills her dreams) starring Mickey Rooney, Donald Crisp (as Mr. Brown), Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor (in the title role as Velvet Brown), Anne Revere (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Mrs. Brown), Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins (billed as "Jackie Jenkins"; in his third movie role!), Eugene Loring, and King Charles (as The Pi; after the movie, Elizabeth Taylor was given King Charles as her personal horse!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. Part of the top blank border was lightly partially folded back at one time. Note that the card has a very minor printing defect, which is a series of faint light red and blue lines down the left edge of the left blank border. This was a very minor printing defect that occurred during the printing of these cards, and it is found on many 1950s and early 1960s lobby cards, and few collectors consider it much of a defect at all, because it is in the left edge of the blank border, has no effect on the image, and would likely be on all examples of this lobby card. There is a diagonal crease in the bottom right corner. Otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition.
