An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Tales of Hoffmann, the 1951 Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet opera romantic fantasy adventure musical (based on the opera by Jacques Offenbach, which in turn is based on the short stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann) starring Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Leonide Massine, Robert Rounseville (in the title role as Hoffmann), Ludmilla Tcherina (billed as "Presenting Ludmilla Tcherina"), and Sir Thomas Beecham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Note that this movie includes scenes of a fantasy island, and it was too costly to create such a set, so those scenes were done with the judicious use of matte paintings of the island! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: good to very good. The poster has a very large diagonal crease at right. There are some lighter creases scattered in various areas and there are some defects in portions of the blank borders (with some spotty surface paper loss at upper right). Surprisingly the defects do not have much effect on the image area (see our image) when the poster is displayed, but after a pretty simple paperbacking it would look great!
