An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Export (printed for use in English speaking countries) Movie Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 56" [95 x 142 cm]) (Learn More)

1914, Die Letzten Tage vor Dem Weltbrand (released in English-speaking countries as "Richard Oswald's 1914"), the 1931 Richard Oswald German World War I (WWI) melodrama (about the leadership of the Great Powers of Europe in the days leading up to the outbreak of the First World War, culminating in the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria; inspired by the book Die Kritischen 39 Tage: von Sarajewo bis zum Weltbrand by historian Eugen Fischer-Baling, who seems to have filmed an introduction that was added to the start of the film) starring Heinrich George, Albert Bassermann, Eugen Klopfer, Reinhold Schunzel (as Czar Nicholas II), Oskar Homolka, Lucie Hoflich, Alfred Abel, and Theodor Loos. Richard Oswald was an Austrian director, producer, and screenwriter. He made his film directorial debut in 1914 and set up his own production company in Germany in 1916. Being Jewish, Oswald was forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1935 and eventually ended up in the United States. He returned to Germany following the end of World War II (WWII) and died there in 1963. Also, note that comparisons have been made between this film and Thirteen Days, the 2000 movie about the Cuban Missile Crisis.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before! Note that this is an extremely rare German poster from before World War II! Virtually no German posters survive from before World War II since apparently there were many paper shortages in Europe during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before and World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards. Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Also note that this German poster was printed in Germany, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in English speaking countries.
