An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Great Gatsby, the 1949 Elliott Nugent romantic melodrama ("A Great Cast... A Great Novel... A Great Motion Picture"; "Ladd as man of violence and mystery vs. women of wealth and Beauty!"; "From the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the play by Owen Davis") starring Alan Ladd (in the title role as Jay Gatsby), Betty Field (as Daisy Buchanan), Macdonald Carey (as Nick Carraway), Ruth Hussey (as Jordan Baker), Barry Sullivan (as Tom Buchanan), Howard Da Silva, Shelley Winters, and Ed Begley. Note that F. Scott Fitzgerald's legendary novel was first adapted as a movie in 1926 (the novel was published in 1925). This 1949 remake was not very faithful to the novel, and was not very successful at the box office, and neither was the 1974 remake starring Robert Redford (to be fair, it would be very difficult for a movie to be faithful to the book and succeed at the box office).

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good. There is marker writing on the back that slightly bleeds through to the front at center in Ladd's coat (it is difficult to notice in our image but is somewhat noticeable on the poster). There are some creases, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths around the edges of the poster. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid.
