An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

The Drug Traffic, the 1923 Irving Cummings silent drug addiction medical doctor cocaine melodrama ("The Drug-evil super special"; "Story by Harvey Gates"; about a successful surgeon whose life is so hectic that when a female acquaintance tells him of a drug that will allow him to work super long hours, he starts taking it, but he soon is injecting it all the time, and he first loses his job, and then ends up in jail; when he tries to quit, it ultimately takes his life!) starring Gladys Brockwell ("The Girl. She demanded all, gave nothing, doomed 'him' to hell"), Robert Walker ("As Dr. Maison Allman. A true lover until.... he fell, fought and then rose"; billed as "Bob Walker"), Barbara Tennant ("The bad good girl. The slums could not taint her love .... strength"), and Ben Hewlett ("'The Treabol Kid', Jimmie. A true blue pal, the good bad boy"). Note that we were unable to determine for certain what drug the doctor becomes addicted to, but since it is a "stimulant", we would think it is surely cocaine and not morphine or heroin. This certainly was an incredibly "hard hitting" movie with no "cop-out" happy ending! Note that the Robert Walker credited above was NOT the Robert Walker who starred in the 1940s and 1950s, but a different Robert Walker who started making movies in 1913, and he appeared in an amazing 255 movies through 1953, a 40 year span, but most of those were westerns, and a lot of them were very minor roles, often uncredited.

Important Added Info: This poster is incredibly rare. We have never seen or heard of ANY other movie poster from this movie other than this single half-sheet in this auction! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had areas of paper loss scattered in the blank borders (more so in the right of the top border, but none of it affected the image). It had a 4" tear in the upper right border that entered the image background and a 5" tear in the lower right border. It had some creases, scuffs and tiny tears in the right of the image and a few scuffs scattered in the rest of the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
