An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-release (re-titled "Illegal Wives" for this re-release) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 42") (Learn More) Polygamy, the 1936 Pat Carlyle underage multiple marriage exploitation melodrama starring Ann Marian, Bruce Wyndham, Charles Maurice, Slim Simms, and Ethel Clark. Note that this movie was made in 1936 by Ted Toddy's Unusual Pictures, but we have never seen any movie paper from that release. In the 1940s, the rights to it were bought by J.D. Kendis, and released through his Jay Dee Kay Pictures as "Illegal Wives", "Child Marriage", and "Child Marriage in Polygamy", although we have only seen movie paper under the title of "Illegal Wives". For the "Illegal Wives" release, these taglines were added: "Exposed for the first time"; "The doctrine of many wives!.."; "Virgins sacrificed on the alter of celestial marriage"; "America's new social problem"! If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was first released in 1939 under the title "Polygamy", but was likely exhibited in small towns and cities throughout the country over the next decade, given its racy subject matter (underage multiple marriage!). This poster is from an undated (likely 1940s) re-release, with the alternate title "Illegal Wives", which according to the distributors was "America's New Social Problem", which I think is stretching the truth past the breaking point! Also note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/4" x 42". Please do not bid on this poster thinking it is 27" x 41". Condition: very good. The poster had many small areas of paper loss down the vertical foldline, and many creases and small tears across the bottom foldline. There were pinholes, creases, smudges, small tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
