An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is an oddity with this insert from this classic movie. For unknown reasons, it was created in two versions, one with a solid white background and one with a solid light yellow background, with slightly different placement of the central image and the credits. It is possible that one was printed first, and then someone in the studio thought it could be improved, so they had it changed, but if so, no one knows which one came first! This auction is for the "yellow" background version, and it is only the third time we have auctioned this poster. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had some creases along the folds, with some minor wear around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, but after it was backed, it was placed in a frame and displayed, and the reds of the credits and title have faded somewhat. It is really only noticeable when you compare it to a completely unfaded example, and it will still display nicely on the new owner's wall. Also, when the poster was framed, it was attached to a mat with tape on the back of each border, and that tape is there (but it does not affect the front). Learn More about condition grades
