A Matted Original Vintage Autographed United States Post Office First Day Cover (measures 3 3/4" x 6 1/2" [10 x 17 cm]; entire display measures 11" x 13 3/4") (Learn More) Will Elder was an illustrator and comic book artist from the 1940s to the 2000s. He was a childhood friend of fellow cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman, and when Kurtzman created the Mad comic book for Bill Gaines EC Comics (E.C. Comics), Elder did much work for that magazine and also did work on other E.C. Comics. When Mad became a magazine, Elder helped Kurtzman with the first issues, but when Kurtzman left Mad, so did Elder. The pair later created "Little Annie Fanny" for Playboy magazine, which was a risque full-color multi-page comic strip that appeared for many years in Playboy. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 86. Artist: Will Elder Important Added Info: Note that this first day cover has been personally autographed (signed) by Will Elder, who added great full-color art of his most famous creation, Little Annie Fanny! It was attached to a page of the Little Annie Fanny comic from Playboy magazine with a single piece of tape on the back, and that page was matted, to create a cool display that is ready to frame and hang on your wall (but of course, the first day cover could be easily removed from the display and presented in a different way). Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. In our last auction, we auctioned around 90 items from this same consignor. Now we are auctioning the last of this wonderful collection, and after this, there will be no more left to auction! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
