An Unfolded French Travel Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 39 1/4" [60 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Air France: Spain, the 1960s (possibly 1968) French airplane airline aviation travel poster promoting travel to Spain aboard Air France, and featuring abstract artwork by Georges Mathieu. Mathieu was a French abstract painter, art theorist and member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is considered one of the fathers of European lyrical abstraction, a trend of informalism. Artist: Georges Mathieu Important Added Info: Note that this poster is part of an advertising campaign commissioned by Pierre Sautet, Deputy Commercial Director of Air France in 1966. All of the posters were created by Georges Mathieu in "the style of lyrical abstraction". The campaign was such a success that it was first presented in 1967 at the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris Museum of Modern Art), followed by numerous exhibitions worldwide. Our consignor obtained the poster from a relative of an Air France Advertising executive. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It has one tiny tear at left and some minor edge wear mostly at upper left, but overall the poster is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
