An Original Vintage Unfolded Special Movie Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 16 1/2" [30 x 42 cm]) (Learn More)

Bakushu (released in English-speaking countries as "Early Summer"), the 1951 Yasujiro Ozu Japanese post-World War II (WWII) romantic family melodrama sequel starring Setsuko Hara, Chishu Ryu, Chikage Awashima, Kuniko Miyake, and Ichiro Sugai. Note that this was the middle movie of a trilogy of great movies by legendary Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu. The first movie was "Banshun" in 1949, which deals with a 27 year old single woman who lives with her widowed father, and everyone wants her to get married, but she wants to take care of him. In this second movie, Bakushu, she is now 28, and still unmarried, and her family sets her up with a 40 year old man, but she has other plans. In the third movie, Tokyo monogatari (released as "Tokyo Story" in English-speaking countries), made in 1953, an old couple visits their children and grandchildren, but they have no time for them!

Note that Yasujiro Ozu was a legendary Japanese writer and director from 1920s to the 1960s. He is likely the second best regarded Japanese director after Akira Kurosawa, and many of his films are considered classics, and his masterpiece is "Tokyo Story" from 1953, although he made movies from 1927 to 1962. First release Japanese posters of any kind from any of his movies are beyond rare!
