An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Destry Rides Again (released in some countries as "Arizona"), the classic 1939 George Marshall romantic cowboy western gambling poker comedy ("Based on the novel by Max Brand"; about the son of a famous sheriff who arrives in a crooked western town, with the hopes that he is like his father and will "clean up" the town, but he seems to be far from the man for the job, because he has Eastern ways, but he soon proves the naysayers wrong) starring Marlene Dietrich (as Frenchy), James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; in the title role as Tom Destry Jr.), Charles Winninger, Mischa Auer, Brian Donlevy, Irene Hervey, Una Merkel, Allen Jenkins, Warren Hymer, Billy Gilbert, Lillian Yarbo, and Jack Carson. Note that the title of the movie refers to Stewart's character returning to the town where his father had been sheriff, but it is not a sequel of any sort. Oddly, when the movie was re-made with Audie Murphy in the lead role, the title was shortened to simply "Destry", which means that "Destry Rides Again" came before "Destry"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this first release half-sheet! Note that we were consigned four half-sheets and two inserts that have been folded, and because they are in lesser condition, can't possibly be rolled. Therefore, they will be sent in a standard size flat package (and that is why they are in this set of auctions, with other items that will be sent in standard flat packages). Condition: poor. The poster was separated on both folds and had some tears and paper loss around the edges. Someone tried to "restore" the poster by putting masking tape over the entire back of the poster, and then performing amateur restoration to the front, including in areas in both stars where there was paper loss and stains. The restoration paint has aged terribly and is very noticeable. Obviously, this extremely rare poster could be rescued by a very talented restorer, but bear all of the above in mind before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
