An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4") (Learn More)

City Lights, the classic 1931 Charlie Chaplin silent romantic comedy melodrama (written and directed by Charles Chaplin; Chaplin is a Tramp who befriends a blind flower seller, and he loves her, but is afraid she can't return his love; the movie includes a memorable boxing scene, and a wonderful final scene where the girl is cured of her blindness) starring Charles Chaplin, Virginia Cherrill, Florence Lee, Harry Myers, Al Ernest Garcia, and Hank Mann. Note that Charlie Chaplin stood alone against the coming of sound to movies, and he made this movie as a silent movie, although it had a soundtrack which included the song "Smile", which Chaplin himself wrote. He would release another silent movie, "Modern Times", in 1936, and then finally agreed to make sound pictures!

Important Added Info: ARE YOU UNFAMILIAR WITH GLASS SLIDES? Many collectors are not familiar with them, because they are incredibly rare, and are rarely offered for sale. Click HERE for a brief history of what they are and what they were used for.

Note that we have provided two images at right for this glass slide. The first image is a high quality scan of just the image area of the slide that shows what it looks like with light shining through it (as it was originally seen when displayed). The second image is a photograph of the entire glass slide (including either the cardboard holder or black tape around the edges, depending on the type of glass slide it is). Clicking on either image will open a new browser window with larger, high quality versions of both images.

Condition: good to very good. at some point this slide was used to show a double-bill of "City Lights" with "The Floor Walker", and sadly, they took this glass slide and cut out a circualr area at bottom center and hand-wrote in the second title; fortunately most of the title and the images of Chaplin at top are unaffected, but this is of course a serious defect; there are two pieces of white paper on the back of the slide to the left and right of the circular area that probably held something in place at one time. You cannot see them from the front

there is a light "dustiness" over the face of the slide, but it pretty much disappears when the slide is held to a light; the cardboard holder is has rust stains by the staples (typical of glass slides)
