HYDE candid 8x10 key book still 1931 Fredric March filmed in lab by crew! Date Sold 11/2/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian double-personality fantasy monster horror thriller ("Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in both title roles; he tied with Wallace Beery who won for The Champ), Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Holmes Herbert, Edgar Norton, and Halliwell Hobbes. Note that this movie premiered in New York City on New Year's Eve 1931, and then went into general release in the U.S. in 1932. So except for that one night, it is a 1932 movie, but because it is always identified as being from 1931, we also identify it that way! That also helps explain why there is movie paper dated 1933. It was a giant hit, and the movie was surely still in its first release into 1933, and more paper was printed as it was needed. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: What an incredible candid key book still! You see March at his table in his lab with a row of crew members in the right filming him! Note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the top of the still. Condition: good to very good. When the top 1" was trimmed off (see above), the person who did it caused paper loss in the right of the top blank border, and the paper loss extended into the top right corner of the image, but it is solely black background that is affected (see our image). There is a faint diagonal scuff mark in the upper right of the image, but it is only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Learn More about condition grades
