An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) She Gods of Shark Reef, the 1958 Roger Corman AIP science-fiction fantasy underwater ocean adventure thriller ("Beautiful maidens in a Lush Tropical Paradise ruled by a Hideous Stone God!"; "Filmed in Wide Vision Color"; a wacky story of two guys who are shipwrecked on an island inhabited only by beautiful women who dive for pearls and worship weird gods) starring Don Durant, Lisa Montell, Bill Cord, Jeanne Gerson, and Beverly Rivera NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Reynold Brown Important Added Info: Note that the art of the girl at left, which may be Reynold Brown art (see below), depicts a naked girl who has VERY strategically placed flowers on her chest and waist. Apparently, this did not offend the vast majority of theater owners, because until we were consigned this poster, we had never seen an example of this where the girl had been "censored" by being given extra clothes (through the use of paint). However, that was done with this poster. Depending on how you look at it, it is either a major detraction or a cool addition, showing just how straight laced the U.S. was in the 1950s! Also note that collectors and online research suggest that Reynold Brown is the artist behind this work, but we cannot be 100% certain. If anyone knows more about this art, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to being backed, the theater that used this poster censored the naked girl by adding yellow paint over her body (see our image and see what we wrote above). The poster also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period), and it had tears and paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking (depending on how you view the censor paint). The person who backed the poster did a pretty good job, but they left alone the censor paint, as noted above. Learn More about condition grades
