Morocco, the classic 1930 Josef von Sternberg (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) military French Foreign Legion doomed romance romantic love triangle adventure melodrama (Cooper is a man who ran off to join the French Foreign Legion to escape his past, and he meets French saloon singer Marlene Dietrich, and they fall madly in love, but their romance is ill-fated) starring Gary Cooper, Marlene Dietrich (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Adolphe Menjou, Ullrich Haupt, Eve Southern, and Francis McDonald. Note that both Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich were at the height of their fame when they made this movie, and they worked wonderfully together! Also note that in this movie, Dietrich is sometimes dressed in men's clothes and has a passionate kiss with another woman!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this original art is somewhat of a mystery. It was surely created in 1930 (on fairly heavy poster board), when this movie was first playing, but was it created for the studio to be reproduced on posters, or was it created by a local theater to be used in place of a poster? We really can't say, and while the image is very similar to that which was used for the studio's one-sheet, it is not exactly the same art or coloring, and it only has the top two credits. It certainly is original art, created by an unknown poster artist who was working in 1930, and it is nearly the same size as one-sheets at that time (and very close to English quads at that time, which were vertical format). However, we have NO additional information, so PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THE UNCERTAINTY OUTLINED ABOVE. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Also note that while this could conceivably be rolled, we will send it in a very large flat package that measures 32" x 42". Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this!

Condition: very good. The art has some smudges with some small stains in small parts of the background (see our super-sized image).
