An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Television Still (Learn More) Mitzi Gaynor (born Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber) was a mostly musical actress from the 1950s to the 1960s. Her mother was a dancer, and her father was a violinist and music director, and she definitely inherited all their talent! She moved to Hollywood when she was 11 and devoted herself to dancing and by 13, she was singing and dancing with the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera. At 17, she lied about her age and signed a 7 year contract with 20th Century-Fox. Some of her movies include: South Pacific, There's No Business Like Show Business, Les Girls, We're Not Married!, and The Joker Is Wild. In the mid 1950s, she stopped making movies and performed a lot on television, on awards shows, and also had a nightclub variety act. In the 1960s, she became a featured columnist for The Hollywood Reporter and had a stage show called The Mitzi Gaynor Show from the 1970s to the 1980s.
