An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) George Raft (born George Ranft) was a legendary tough guy actor (specializing in crime and film noir roles) from the 1920s to the 1980s. Like James Cagney, he actually WAS born in a tough neighborhood in New York City, so his tough guy persona was honestly earned! Note that he first appeared in movies in minor roles in 1929, but it took three years and seven movies before he got his big break in Howard Hughes' "Scarface" (where he played Paul Muni's coin-flipping henchman). After that, he was rushed into six movies in the rest of 1932 alone, and he remained a major star (mostly in gangster roles) for many years. Some of his other movies include: Each Dawn I Die, Manpower, If I Had a Million, They Drive by Night, and Some Like It Hot (in a great cameo where he played a parody of his earlier gangster roles). He passed away in 1980 at the age of 79. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by George Raft! Note that while this is a vintage still from the 1930s, Mr. Raft signed it at a later date (in this case 1945). Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm]. Our consignor purchased this signed item from the estate of a major autograph collector, and while he does not have a certificate of authenticity, both he and we are certain the autograph is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good. The still was trimmed to 7" x 9" (no doubt to fit a frame). It has surface paper loss and tape stains in the top edge (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
