The California Rodeo Salinas was founded in 1911 as a Wild West Show on the site of the old race track ground, now the Salinas Sports Complex. It is one of the top 20 regular season rodeos in the U.S. and draws over 600 of the best cowboys and cowgirls across America to compete for prize money and the coveted gold and silver Salinas belt buckle. This annual event also draws over 50,000 fans to the Salinas Sports Complex each year to see action-packed rodeo events such as bull riding, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding and more. The rodeo was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2008.
