Date Sold 2/11/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Two-Sided Theatrical English Trade Ad (measures 11 1/4" x 16 3/4" [29 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Dixiana, the 1930 Luther Reed all-star musical circus/gambling casino/southern plantation Louisiana romantic comedy ("Radio's mighty dramatic spectacle ...will set the heart of the world afire!"; "Mightiest Romantic Music Spectacle of the Ages! Staged in Lavish, Fabulous Splendor!"; "Unbridled world of carnival pleasures! In the fevered last hours of Mardi Gras"; RKO had had huge success with the all-star spectacle "Rio Rita", and so they followed with this movie, with lots of singing and comedy and a convoluted plot involving a beautiful Louisiana plantation girl who works in the circus, and is forced to work for a creepy gambler, who tries to bankrupt her true love, but all works out in the end, with much singing and dancing, and the girl is even voted queen of the Mardi Gras!) starring Bebe Daniels, Everett Marshall, Bert Wheeler & Robert Woolsey (Wheeler & Woolsey), Dorothy Lee, Jobyna Howland, Ralf Harolde, Joseph Cawthorn, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies; in his first screen appearance!), and "5000 others". Note that Everett Marshall was a singer at the Metropolitan opera from 1927 to 1931, who appeared in this movie in 1930, and also appeared in "I Live For Love", opposite Dolores Del Rio five years later, but his heart was in singing and not in acting, and those were his only two film appearances, and he continued touring in musicals the rest of his career.
